"The fact of knowing how to read is nothing, the whole point is knowing what to read." Jacques Ellul
Now What Read is a reading group set up as part of Now What?
Now that there is more time available there is an opportunity to read more. However it can be difficult to know what to read, Now What Read aims to bring people together to both propose reading material and to read and discuss proposed material.
"To read without reflecting is like eating without digesting." Edmund Burke
“Always read something that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.” P. J. O'Rourke
"Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read." Groucho Marx
Excellent idea Dearbhla,
ReplyDeleteI have read through the essay, and as an expertly chosen passage, I found it to be a succinct refresher on the polemic discourse of the last few years. Since graduating I have read the occasional journal, and whatever decent books Hodges & Figgis had in stock, but this was an excellent summary of what has been going on in the world of architectural theory; thank you for putting it forward as a position for a discussion to start from.
I will be unable to attend the reading session, but, I thoroughly commend the efforts being made by the now what? Group and I would love to contribute; I’ll put something together and post it on the blog.
Thank you for your comment Diarmuid! It would be great if you could come to a session or two, keep looking at the blog as you may be able to attend future sessions. Dearbhla
